French Colours (Les Couleurs)

(0)
KS2 / KS3 Beginners French Language Colours / Colors vocabulary PowerPoint lesson presentation, printable games, activities, a worksheet, crossword and word search. Introduction and revision of 11 French colour (or color) words. The colours are introduced using the questions ‘C’est quelle couleur?’ (referring to the colour itself) and ‘C’est de quelle couleur?’ (referring to the colour of objects / animals etc).   My FSL / MFL French basics resources and units suit students beginning French, near beginners (and intermediate learners for revision) in: Upper Primary (Key Stage 2) - Year 4, 5, 6 (Y4 Y5 Y6) Secondary (Key Stage 3) - especially Year 7 and 8 (Y7 / Y8) Equivalents such as Grades 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 Core French in Canada May suit others, depending on experience   The presentation suits learners who are new or fairly new to French but it also includes teaching points about female and plural forms of the colour adjectives, which you can use if appropriate, plus an introduction to the words for ‘light’ and ‘dark’ colours. With almost 50 slides, it also includes pronunciation tips, an interactive Kim’s game and a slide for a splat game, where children can ‘splat’ the colour that’s been said in French by the teacher. Students are also invited to show the teacher classroom objects of a particular colour so if they already know the name of some classroom objects this will help. Alternatively, they could learn some for this activity. An additional US spelling version of the presentation is included. The Four in a Row game works well in either A3 or A4 and can be used with the colour word cards. Use different colour paper or card when printing the word cards so that opponents can play with a different colour set. Students put their cards in a pile, taking the top one and choosing strategically which space to place it on (as long the colour on the space matches the word on the card!). Or laminate the board and students mark on their initial with a dry-wipe marker if they correctly say the colour in French. First to get four in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - is the winner. There are also 8 cards for games of bingo and/or noughts and crosses (tic tac toe) and a 20-card ‘I Have…Who Has?’ game / Loop game. This latter resource features some light and dark versions of the colours. The worksheet is included with and without a word bank for support. Full answer keys for the worksheet and puzzles. It’s full of teaching points and activities to introduce and consolidate 20 adjectives and linked questions and phrases. There’s a set of printable flash cards too. Among the 70 slides, there’s teaching about adjectival agreement and common intensifiers (assez, trop, vraiment etc), review activities, short comprehension tasks, an interactive game and then there’s an additional 40 slides, making over 110 in total, comprising a fun memory game. Enough for more than one lesson! My French basics / beginners resources are designed for Year 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 but might suit others, depending on experience. Please check the preview to assess suitability. Due to spelling differences with ‘organised / organized’ and ‘disorganised / disorganized’, the resources are included in UK and US versions. Within the Zip file, the Presentation is in PowerPoint (with an additional non-interactive PDF version) and the flashcards are in PDF.   Many slides in the original PowerPoint version feature answers that appear when you click, for students to respond. While the PDF version does not retain the ability for teachers to reveal answers by clicking, it will help you introduce and review this topic if you do not have PowerPoint where you work. The 4 slides that make up the interactive hexagons game are not compatible with PDF and are omitted from that version.   SAVE by getting this in a Character Traits in French BUNDLE, which also contains: French Character Traits in French Worksheets and Puzzles French Character Traits Printable Games If you are also teaching Describing Appearance (hair, eyes etc) you might be interested in a French Physical Descriptions BUNDLE Or a Describing People (Physical and Character) BUNDLE, which contains all 7 resource packs on both topics.   ALL 7 ARE ALSO CONTAINED IN: French KS2 / KS3 MEGA BUNDLE 3   THIS PRESENTATION IS ALSO CONTAINED IN: French Presentations MEGA BUNDLE   Thanks for your interest in my resources. Clothing / Les Vetements Colours / Les Couleurs Describing People / Les Descriptions Physiques Family / La Famille Food and Drink / La Nourriture et Les Boissons Greetings and Introductions / Les Salutations et Je me Presente Numbers / Les Nombres Pets / Les Animaux de Compagnie School / L’ecole Classroom Vocabulary / Les Objets de la Classe Sport and Hobbies / Le Sport et Les Passe-temps Weather / La Meteo   My French basics resources are made for students beginning French and near beginners in Years 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 and equivalents, depending on experience and ability. Please check previews to assess suitability.   Contained in this 35-page PDF file: 8 puzzles worksheets (3 versions of each) Full answer keys Vocabulary list to support students who require it Teacher instruction page   SAVE by getting this in French Revision Worksheets BUNDLE, which also contains French Comprehension Worksheets   Students translate numbered English words and enter into the grid. The letters in the shaded boxes, reading from top to bottom, form a French sentence. Students write this on the lines at the bottom, placing one letter on each dash (slashes separate the words), and translate it. Choose which version you require for your students, depending on age, experience and ability: The 1-star versions have some of the letters added to the grid to support students, the 2-star versions just have the first letter of each word (or if the first letter is in a shaded box, the rest of the word has been supplied instead), while the 3-star versions (hardest) feature entirely blank grids. You can also differentiate by supplying the vocabulary support list to students who require it. This approach works especially well with the 2-star puzzles as students can use the first letter of any word they don’t know to find the French translation relatively quickly. MORE TIPS: Students could work on these puzzles in groups or mixed ability pairs. To use again, laminate and use dry-wipe pens. Students could be encouraged to use French dictionaries or the Internet for words they do not know. They could also use them to check the meaning of the hidden sentence.

There are 3 vocabulary support pages too. My French basics resources are designed for Year 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 for teaching or revision but might suit others, depending on experience. Please check the preview to assess suitability. Due to ‘bruns’ being commonly used in Canada to describe brown eyes (instead of ‘marron’ which is common elsewhere), there is a separate Canadian version included within the Zip file. Both files are in PDF format. SAVE by purchasing this as part of a Describing People in French (Physical and Character) BIG BUNDLE, which also contains 2 smaller bundles: French Physical Descriptions BUNDLE French Character Traits BUNDLE ALL 7 DESCRIBING PEOPLE RESOURCES ARE ALSO INCLUDED IN: French KS2 / KS3 MEGA BUNDLE 3 THIS CARDS AND WORKSHEET PACK IS ALSO INCLUDED IN: French Worksheets and Puzzles MEGA BUNDLE   CONTENTS: Vocabulary support: Two word mats (one for physical descriptions and one for character / personality descriptions). Display or print if any students require them. There’s also a card of common intensifiers (trop, assez, un peu etc), as some of the cards contain these linked to describing character traits (I am very friendly, I am too lazy etc). Please note these 3 vocabulary support pages are included in some related resources too. Translation cards: A set of 24 cards for oral practice of describing people in French, mixing both physical descriptions and personality. Print and laminate as required. In pairs, students translate the text on their card into French, practicing speaking it together. Or they could read the French and translate it into English. The 6 English language sides are designed to be printed back-to-back with the 6 translation sides for student self-checking. If you prefer, the translations could be printed as separate cards. Reading comprehension: This worksheet (included at 2 levels with answer keys) also mixes physical descriptions with personality descriptions, with a short third person text. The one-star version is for less experienced or less able students. It features the same text but has multiple choice questions.
